A home sauna is simple to use, but a few habits make sessions safer and more enjoyable. This is general information, not medical advice; talk to your doctor if you have heart conditions, are pregnant, or take medication that affects heat tolerance.

Temperature

Infrared cabins typically run around 120 to 150°F; traditional saunas around 150 to 195°F. Start lower and work up.

Session length

Many people start with 10 to 15 minutes and build to around 20. Leave earlier if you feel dizzy or unwell.

Safety basics

  • Drink water before and after.
  • Avoid alcohol before or during a session.
  • Don't sauna alone if you have health concerns.
  • Supervise children closely, and keep their sessions short and cooler.

A simple routine

  1. Shower first.
  2. Sit or lie in the sauna for 10 to 20 minutes.
  3. Cool down with a shower or fresh air.
  4. Rest and drink water. Repeat if you like.

Care

Sit on a towel, wipe benches occasionally, and leave the door open after use so the wood can dry.
