Infrared cabins are the easiest way to put a sauna inside your home. They plug in, heat up quickly and run cooler than a traditional sauna, around 120 to 150°F, warming you with panels rather than hot air. The differences between them come down to the type of heaters, the warranty and how much testing the maker publishes.

Far infrared vs full spectrum

Far-infrared heaters are the standard. They produce the deep, even warmth most people associate with infrared saunas. Full-spectrum cabins add near- and mid-infrared heaters, usually smaller panels or lamps. Makers promote extra benefits from those wavelengths; the evidence is still developing, so treat full spectrum as a nice extra rather than a must-have.

Power and placement

Most two-person cabins need a dedicated 120V circuit, 15 or 20 amps. Check the label before you buy, and plan the spot near an outlet. They're designed for indoor use; outdoor infrared models, like Sun Home's Luminar 2 at $11,599, are built differently and need 240V.

Questions

How hot does an infrared sauna get?

Typically around 120 to 150°F. It feels warmer than the number suggests because the panels heat your body directly.

Can an infrared sauna go in an apartment?

Often, yes, if you have a suitable circuit and the space. Check with your landlord and the cabin's electrical requirements first.
