"Low EMF" appears on almost every infrared sauna box. EMF, or electromagnetic fields, come from the heaters and wiring, and many buyers prefer to keep exposure low. The trouble is that brands measure in different ways, so the numbers often can't be compared.
How to read EMF claims
- Distance matters most. Readings fall quickly with distance. A figure taken at your seat will look much lower than one taken 2 inches from a panel.
- Who measured it. Independent lab testing carries more weight than a manufacturer's own claim.
- Which unit. Some brands publish tests from a representative sample rather than each model.
